A Great Enduring Love: FAMILY

In 1995 the Thompsons became "the Thompson Hill," when Vaughn & Traci Ann Wiedemann and Jacqueline & Richard Hill were married.  Vaughn and Jacqueline have chosen well.  Their mates have become so loved and so integral to the family.  Over the next ten years Alvin and Laurie became "Papi" and "Grammy" to the Thompson's two sons and the Hills two sons and "the princess."  They are a wonderful team of artists, scientists, athletes, musicians and clowns who are learning to love their Lord.  Their parents are to be commended.

The love of these eleven has endured the distance and separation of borders for months and years at a time.  For three years they have all been together in Texas.  Once again, however, they will love and support one another from a distance as the ministry calls them back to Guatemala to work with the team at SETECA (perhaps a challenge and opportunity for the grandkids).  God has always been faithful.  He will continue.

More Than 40 Years of Love & Service

Early in Alvin & Laurie's marriage of more than 40 years, they made the decision to commit themselves to studying and teaching the Bible.

For Laurie, teaching the Bible and mentoring women has been one of the joys of her life.   She has written and lead Bible studies for women and directed women's ministries in churches in Guatemala, as well as  the U.S.

Alvin chose teaching the Scriptures and administration, as his ministry as well as his career.  After earning his ThM and PhD from Dallas Seminary, and beginning serving with Camino Global, he and Laurie moved to Guatemala in 1997 and began teaching at the Central American Theological Seminary (SETECA).

In 2004, the Seminary requested that Alvin develop and administrate the online Masters' program, requiring the Thompsons to return to the U.S. for the technical support.  Nine years later under the vision and leadership of a new Rector, Carlos Lopez, the Thompsons return to Guatemala as Alvin takes the new position of E-Learning Coordinator and Advisor for Virtual Education.  He will help the new Virtual Ed Team to improve and expand the online offerings of SETECA.
